At Modafirma we have interviewed Rosie founder of Rose and Caramel, an organic self-tanning brand. From experimenting with tanning solutions in her kitchen to now selling tanning products across the globe and creating an award winning tanning prep and remover. In this interview Rosie shares some tips on using Rose and Caramel tanning products and her entrepreneurship journey.
To start, can you first introduce yourselves to our readers who may be hearing about your brand for the first time?
Im Rosie from Rose & Caramel Tanning. We are a self tan brand that started in my kitchen back in 2010! We are now manufactured & sold on platforms across the globe dedicated to bettering the self tan world with a range of self tan and self tan removal products.
What were you doing before Rose & Caramel, and what made you want to start a business in the tanning industry?
Before Rose & Caramel myself and business partner Carmel ran a local beauty salon together. We were very well known for tanning including self- tan and sun beds. When spray tanning launched we quickly saw a shift in customers from sun beds to spray tans. It was a chance meeting with medical herbalist Mr G Alexander that led us to be trained in how to create & produce our own tanning and skin care products. We wanted to create the perfect tanning solution for our customers and began to mix different tanning solutions at home and use them in our salon tweaking and bettering each solution trying to create something new.
Tell us a bit more about your products, and what makes your tanning products different from those on the market?
We create all our products from scratch. All our products have a purpose to them, we want to offer the best in tanning. Each tan has a tone to suit all skin tones. We offer 3 world first products including purity self tan removing bubble bath & shower gel and also nudity tan in a can which is the worlds first cream based aerosol tan combining the benefits of a cream with the ease of a spray tan and it only develops on skin cells making it the cleanest way to tan at home!
A very unique feature of your brand, is introducing a tanning remover Purity Self Tan Removing Bubble Bathand the response from your customers have been amazing so far. Could you give us an insight into this product and how it works?
Yes of course Purity bubble bath is one of my favourite products! This was designed due to my love of baths and hate for tan removal! We try to help every customer get a flawless tan and we started to notice when customers were having problems with their tan it was due to them not removing their old self tan completely before re application. Purity self tan removing bubble bath seemed the perfect way to combine a little self care with self tan removal. It combines key self tan removal ingredients & is packed with bath salts to rejuvenate your skin. We have made it perfume, alcohol & fragrance free to ensure it is suitable for all skin types even the most sensitive of skins. It removes all brands of self tan & is most definitely the most relaxing way to remove your self tan and a very popular part of our range!
Being an entrepreneur it can be difficult when starting off, If you could go back and tell yourself one thing about starting a business, what would it be?
It would be to believe in myself & my ideas, to stay focused, and not to worry about the failures, each failure is a step closer to success. Enjoy the journey as everyday is part of your story & most importantly be patient, everything will happen at the right time.
You have 4 ranges of tanning products in your collection, Nudity, Velvety, Intensity and Purity. Which one would you say is your favourite?
That is such a hard question! I love each and every range as they all bring something so necessary to the tanning world BUT Nudity aerosol was my very first world first creation and living in a completely white / cream home yet being a tan-a-holic it’s my go to weekly tan that I could not live without!
What are your top tips when using your tanning products?
Always Choose the right tan for your skin tone, the correct tone is the secret to the perfect looking tan! When layering allow each layer to dry to ensure flawless results. Less is always more on hands & feet!
